@John No real concerns – I just think there’s some valid points.

However, I do have one ongoing concern and that is how much Adobe are willing to “sell” CF to keep it alive. I am sure Adobe wouldn’t drop it – but there does seem to be an overwhelming desire from the community for Adobe to push CF a little harder. Flex and AIR presentations would be a perfect vehicle for this, but as yet I haven’t seen it.

If it weren’t for the community – CF would definitely be on life-support already.

If this means that Scott will stop posting on Adobe community blogs then I’m all for it. I didn’t like how he and his employer patronized us, yet at the same time copied our every move. It’s time for MS to start innovating. The company is in a crisis but just can’t take their pink glasses off.

BTW the Community Expert program is global, take it from a member in the UK.

I’m shocked to hear you say “Adobe’s technologies are better” you of all people know that its not that black/white. You’re also talking about a breakfast that was 2-3 years ago and before my time at Microsoft.

I understand it, i never questioned it’s actual benefits but what I did and have questioned is the onflow of the said benefits after the “internal meetings” have been had.

My takeaway from Scott’s post is threefold:

He wasn’t very good at evangelism and got into a lot of fights with folks in other technical communities – entirely his fault. He says he didn’t enjoy the fights (yeah, right) but he started them so he can’t be all that opposed to them

There was no ROI for Microsoft at webDU because Adobe’s technologies are better and Adobe developers don’t want to switch to Microsoft. I remember MXDU and the Microsoft “hot breakfast seminar”. Some folks went in just to get a free hot breakfast but a lot of people just didn’t want to listen to Microsofties droning on, trying to sell people their latest offering.

He doesn’t understand the Adobe Community Expert program (note: ACE is a *certification* and is something completely different). The small number of experts are granted access to all sorts of internal knowledge and rewarded in a number of ways – based on, essentially, evangelizing Adobe technologies.

It is not a US only program. I know, for example, Mark Mandel (who is in Australia in case some folks don’t already know) got in.

I think state side they do let the ace guys in, but it is a small group, and that Adobe is a 10th the size of MS so it’s harder for them to do this.

So if people don’t want to have this talk of CF is dead. They should get out there and preach them selves, Adobe will notice

I did Dublin Friday and it was fun So if you love CF like we all did many years ago, go spread the word if you need help give me a shout
