Posted by Neil on December 19, 2007

As mentioned previously, Feed-Squirrel.com is up for nomination in the best aggregator category at this years CFEmmys.

Please go vote if you like the site, and hopefully we might win something. Voting closes Friday.

Want ColdFusion news straight to your desktop as it happens? 1

Posted by Neil on December 18, 2007

It would appear that not many people know about the feed-squirrel.com twitter feed that has been running now for a few months, so I thought I would mention it again as I know some people out there find it genuinely useful.

In a nutshell, every time Feed-Squirrel.com picks up a ColdFusion related post, the post title is twittered out with a link to the item.  This means that if you are running one of the many twitter desktop tools out there such as GTalk or Twitterific , you will get instantaneous notification of ColdFusion news as it happens.

So, how do you set this up? Simple, get a twitter account, and then follow “FeedSquirrel”.  Make sure you have notifications turned on and you’re away.

Stay tuned, as more feeds for Flash and Flex content will be appearing soon.

My new favourite tag….. 5

Wait for it….

CFHTMLHEAD

“Is that all” I hear you cry? Maybe even a “WTF is CFHTMLHEAD?”..

Well, to quote the documentation:

“Writes text to the head section of a generated HTML page.” Simple eh?

Vote for the squirrel

Posted by Neil on December 12, 2007

Todd Sharp has opened up nominations for this years CFEmmys and Feed-Squirrel.com is nominated for best aggregator. When voting opens next week, please vote for FS, and you never know - we might beat the big guns at their own game ;)

What browsers are we seeing today?

Posted by Neil on December 12, 2007

Well, I’ve just had a poke around in the Feed-Squirrel stats, and come across the OS usage that I am seeing on the site. I’ll tell you one thing, it’s quite amazing what people will be surfing the web on these days (well, different to when I started looking at server logs back in ‘96).

Windows 81.6%
Mac OSX 11.2%
Linux 6%
Playstation 3 0.6%
Symbian 0.07%
SunOS 0.03%
PSP 0.03%
iPhone 0.03%
iPod 0.01%

Goddamn kids I tell you…

Quicksilver, the OSX app to beat all others 1

Posted by Neil on December 12, 2007

I was talking to a friend of mine today about their shiny new MacBook Pro and was suprised to see that they didn’t use Quicksilver, the application launcher widget for OSX, which was something that I thought everyone knew about.

Well, it turns out they didn’t so I thought I would blog about it.

Quicksilver

To save me repeating what is already out there, here’s the wikipedia page about quicksilver which is way more useful than anything I can say. All I can suggest is that if you don’t have it, install it and get into the habit of using it. If, on the other hand, you don’t have a Mac, go out and get one then install it.

You’ll love it.

Adobe.com gets a facelift 3

Posted by Neil on December 07, 2007

Yup, the new adobe.com went live today, sporting a look mirroring that of the dev center.

Interestingly, ColdFusion is no longer listed on the front page (or the products page) as one of the top products, it’s now buried in the drop-downs.

Yup, I’m speaking at Scotch ‘08

Posted by Neil on December 04, 2007

As announced yesterday, I will be at Scotch on the Rocks 2008 for a couple of sessions.  I’m not telling you what they are yet, but I can tell you it’s looking to be a fantastic conference, for not a lot of money.

Also at Scotch will be Mark Drew, Peter Bell, Sean Corfield, Gert Franz, Doug Hughes, Joe Rhinehart, Scott Stroz, Simon Gladman and Matt Woodward.

…all that for only £199+VAT
