I have been using a cool application called Zoogmo. It offers totally free and unlimited offsite backup. You can use it to backup to your own computers or external hard drive or you can agree with your friends to share backup space on each others' computers.

They only launched a few weeks ago so there are some features that are missing, but I just got an email from them this week about new features coming soon and about a Facebook application.

I have been using Mozy for maybe a year now, and really love the assurance it gives me. And yes, I did run into a situation where I had to restore from it, and was easily able to locate the needed files and get them back on my hard drive.

Oh ya, I'm with you. I have a Windows Scheduled task that runs a DOS batch file which robocopy's my stuff to a USB drive. *BUT* if a Virus invaded your system that would wipe out hte files directly, or the next time it mirrors it'll erase all the content that got erased from the source (or the files got corrupted, etc...).

So I use Mozy as a failsafe as well. The only thing I don't like is that it's kinda slow.
